C2E2 was amazing! I hope to be able to do it again in the future. We were so close to our goal, but I was happy to have made some new fans and meet artists I admire online. It was crazy fun! I'm sad I didn't take much in pictures or video due to us being busy, but that's a good thing! We got to do some sight seeing after hours like having Chicago deep dish pizza and going to Chinatown! A lot of great food. I got con crud though which sucks. My body didn't adapt well to the new environment I guess. I had some fun commissions and was worried since I didn't have all of my things with me due to weight restrictions on planes, but we did all right.
Tomorrow is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I will be at Read More Comics in Brandon, FL doing FREE, yes FREE sketches from 4-7 p.m. (limit one per person). I can take commission orders if you want something nice for yourself or someone special and will have prints and my comics for sale as well. I hope to try different shops out once in a while so if you are interested in having me at your event please email me.
I'm also amazed from the positive response to my doodlez prints and will definitely be making more. I just did two star wars ones. One with the rebels and one with the sith side from the original trilogy of course.
Also school is out for summer! so expect more from me! I hope to eventually be able to do more cons and live off that eventually and commissions so I can continue to pump out more awesome stuff, but until then I'll try to update as much as I can and create as much art and comics that my body can handle. Thanks for all the support and check out my updated con schedule! See around!
Sorry for the lack of updates. School is kicking my butt. Speaking of school I made a major decision and decided to change my major from Graphic Design to Digital Arts. Which means I'll be learning some 3D animation and I'm very excited. Graphic Design just seems to not be working out to well for me. Don't get me wrong I can still make logos and design t-shirts and etc, but I just find it not for me to continue school for.
In other news Megacon was amazing and thanks to everyone who came by and checked out my stuff and panel. It means a lot. I'm very surprised my new Doodlez style went very well. I also got to talk to other artist that I admire and was shocked they love my stuff as well. It blows my mind. I even did some awesome trades. Even with some drama with an individual in the convention scene that I'm currently dealing with I had a great time. I just wish I had more time to hang out with everyone and do things I wanted to do, but I was glad to be busy and working my butt off.
Also Tampa Bay Comic con is coming up this weekend! So if you're local you should definately come by and check out my stuff. I also got a few copies of Solestar to sell and all the money goes twoard the Brain Anneurism Foundation. Also if you already have a copy and want me to sign it be sure to bring it by.
After Our local show we will be flying out to C2E2 this month as well, which we are nervous and excited about. It will be our first time flying to a convention and be nowhere near what we know or are familiar with so I hope Chicago embraces us and we meet some cool new people.
Also another major news update! I will be at a different location for Free comic Book Day on May 4th. Read More Comics was nice enough to let me work at their artist table from 4-7pm. I will be giving away FREE yes FREE 4x6 Doodlez style of any 1 character in color per person. I will also have my comics for sale and prints and some original art. I will also take some commission requests if anyone wanted to order anything for me to mail them considering the short time frame, which I will mail for FREE as well. My commission list is currently CLOSED outside of conventions. So if you can't make it to conventions this is a good way to get art from me.
This is only the beggining of our biggest con season yet keep a look out for us and let me know if you guys have any convention suggestions and it always helps if you let cons know you would like to see me there because sometimes they might offer me a table which helps out greatly.
Well I need to get back to school work. Thanks for reading and see you guys at a convention near you!
I've started school this semester and I'm already swamped with trying to finish my comic, a sketch card gig, current commissions, and work that I'm going to have to close down commissions for the semester. I will have commissions available at conventions I'll be at and there are still some pledges on my current kickstarter for Facebeast right now, but other than that I can't do anything else, because I basically have no time. I have a commission list so if you already asked me about a commission before you are fine. I added you to my to do list on the side. Thanks for your understanding and it will open back up soon when I'm not as busy. Thanks!
Working full speed on Facebeast 2. I've started inking pages and Josh has begun working on launching a kickstarter for it. We plan to have it ready for MegaCon 2013.
Speaking of the work I do for Naughty Bicycle we actually decided to have a gallery for other artists and fans that send us fan art to have teir work printed in our comic with their info. We don't plan to pay anyone to send in art, unless we see an artist we really like and can afford at conventions we do. We would however if we decide to print your art to give you a free copy of the comic it's in and have your art and info in our comic that we sell at conventions.
If interested I can send you references if you want to do fanart for our comics Agatha Frisky and Facebeast. Even if we don't have room in Facebeast 2 we plan to do this for every issue so you'll get in eventually as long as we make comics. Email me at keelhaulkateart@gmail.com.
Also for the holidays I have a sale going on in my online stores etsy and storenvy for 50% off ( except shoes and buttons) until Jan.1st, 2013. Just put the code holidays in for the checkout. It's too late to ship for Christmas, but it's a good sell to get something for yourself or as a late gift.
Well, it's been a good year and I can't for 2013. Hapoy Holidays everyone.
Well got letters from San Diego Comic Con and C2E2 and both rejected me this year, I'll try C2E2 again, but I feel like SDCC will just be a loss of money for me unless I raised money on kick starter for it. $500 for 4ft and 1 badge...ouch!
But no sadness for me I already have Heroes Con and Cincy Comic Con who love me as I am, no need to apply like I'm trying to get into a college. So I am happy with my convention schedule for 2013.
I also got a new banner with my name and Josh's name on it so you can find us easier! Hooray!
And thanks to Groupon we got some NB Comic swag for ourselves to look more legit at cons. Also almost halfway done penciling Facebeast 2 and turned in my pencils for Skin Crawling so things are moving along nicely.
Also school is done for the semester so no stress until the end of January for me yay!
I think that's pretty much it for now. I'm busy prepping for Time Lord Fest in Tampa this January, so see you then!
Sorry it's taking me this long this update. I've been busy that's for sure. To start off I'll review the last conventions I have done for the year. So here it goes!
Tampa Bay Comic Con:
This is always one of my favorite cons since it's literally 5 minutes away from where I currently live. It seemed like it grows with more people every time. Unfortunately we didn't do as well in sales as we hoped, but I think it's because I need more prints and a bigger display. So Josh and I are working on that for Magacon. I hope they eventually plan to move this to a bigger venue since the audience for it grows every year. We hope to do this one as well as its sister con in Orlando for 2013 for sure!
North Florida Comic Show:
I was glad Rachel Pandich told me about this convention and offered us a place to crash. We didn't do super well because it wasn't a big convention, but the people we did meet were amazing and we made some new fans which made me happy and well worth the trip. We definitely hope to this one again as well if we can afford to for 2013 as well.
In other news there is a lot going on in the kickstarter universe. I just mailed out most of backer rewards and only a few left to finish up and make pdfs. I also posted my thank you video on the kickstarter page and plan to post it on youtube as well for others to see. So happy to finally be close to the end of that tunnel. Speaking of which I do have the sketchbooks in sale on my online store. After this run this is it! You'll have to wait for Doodlez volume 2! So act now if you want one! I'm also waiting to get my art back from the Muppet Art Show, I hope I sold them instead of them being lost or stolen, since the guy who ran it seems to be MIA at the moment...
I also did a Wreck it Ralph event at Cobb Theatres and it went well, even though I was late due to I-4 being shut down. I did a lot of sketches for free and got to see the movie after.
Also a kick-starter launched by a good friend Siike Donnely called Solestar. I donated 2 pages to this jam type art story that tells a story of a superhero with only 24 hours left to live and embarks on a journey to save the world for one last time. All proceeds from sales of this book also go towards helping the Brain Aneurism Foundation as well! So please go check it out and they plan to launch it at Megacon 2013 as well!
There's also a kick-starter that I found and I will have an artist table there to display my art in Cincinnati! They have gone well over their goal and was put together by the the amazing Tony Moore who has done the art for The Walking Dead! So I'm very excited to be at this con with some amazing artists. Definitely something to go to if you can.
As for what I'm working on now since I don't plan to have another convention until January. I only have a few weeks left of school this semester, but still have my boring day job to pay my bills. I'm currently focused on Facebeast 2 and getting some prints done. I'm also in the works with Skin Crawling Comics and Rachel Pandich on a story about King Leer in Space. More on those once I know more.
I'm finally settled after the big trip to Atlanta, Ga for Dragon con 2012. It was my first convention I did outside of FL and I would say we did well. I met some new people and got visits from old friends. Also two of my kickstarter backers were in attendance and I gave them their rewards early. So thank you Bob Mask and Chris Hamer for backing my kickstarter :D
I hope to do it again, not sure about 2013, but maybe in 2014. Depends how our other conventions go. We are using most of the funds to get a table at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC for 2013 if it doesn't sell out. Josh from Naughty Bicycle and I are trying to slowly do more and more cons. The next convention we have planned for this year is Palm Con 2 and Orlando Comic Expo on the 22nd and 23rd of this month. I'm also taking print requests for those cons as well in advance and commissions in advance if anyone is interested. If so email me at keelhaulkateart@gmail.com .
Well that's all for now. Be sure to check out photos below from Dragon con 2012!
My kick-starter got funded! I will have a limited number of advance copies of my sketchbook at Dragon Con 2012 for only $10! So please come by a visit me at table number 32 in the comics and pop art alley in the Hyatt. I'll be under the name Naughty Bicycle with a banner.
I plan to have whatever copies I have left for sale on my web store soon after I get more copies for my backers. They will have 44 pages of art in full color and will be perfect bound!
I also plan to have only 25 copies made of the variant cover edition where I will draw whatever you would like on the cover in full color for $40! This will be a limited run and totally worth every penny.
So keep an eye out for info soon or you'll be able to get a copy during any convention I'll be at this year.
I'm also taking commission requests early so you can be guaranteed to get something from me during the con. I will also take print requests as well for any work you may like that I have for sale in my print shop or that is possible for em to make a print of that I have already done.
Print Sizes and prices will be:
4x6-$5
8.5x11-$8
11x17-$10
Please email me at guitarkat15@gmail.com so I can make sure I will have a copy available for you of the print you want and to make sure its possible for me to print it.
Again prints are art I have already done.
I will be doing original art for commissions if you want something specific.
