Free Con 8 04/10/2012

So I'm back from Free con 8 and it wasn't our best convention we've been to. So I'm going to start off with the positives.
Positives are:
1) We got free t-shirts!
2) We made some new fans and got our name out there.
3)We met Lee from Adventuring Company and he invited us out to Decent Pizza! He's awesome!
4) They had good food in Tallahassee.
5) Our hotel was awesome.
6) I made some fun art to make into prints and some awesome commissions!
7) Lee gave me some good advice and info about a place to get some good prints done.
8) I bought cool stuff! Prints, Comics, sketchbooks, a plush corgi keychain, and a rainbow dash charm.

.....Now for the Negatives..........
1)Being it's 8th year it was the most unorganized con we have been to.
2)College cons sucks because there are so many rules, stupid school boards.
3)Too many anime kids who don't like art that isn't super anime.
4)Staff was in panic mode 24/7
5)Too many vendors in artist alley
6) Too much room in vendor room...hmmm..
7)We didn't sell a lot and did horrible in sales.
8)We couldn't have food.
9)Checked in was told we were table 1 when we arrived and was listed so on the website. Went to the car to get our stuff. Was told it was first come, first served...ummm no! Plus we were first. Big no-no. Especially when we drove all the way from Tampa.
10) Paid more for hotel and gas than what we got the whole con. :(

So yea... I think we made a new rule. NO MORE COLLEGE CONVENTIONS!

I want to do bigger stuff and get my name out there more. I eventually want to try to do Heroes Con, C2E2, NYCC, and etc.  Hopefully I'm getting my name out there more to get potential clients and start making money to be able to more conventions.

In other news! The Zombie Project I'm working on with my friend Kevin has made its goal on Kick-starter! HOORAH! There is still time to donate and many rewards left, So check it out on the side bar! Speaking of Kick-starter Josh's band The Long Johns has a Kick-starter as well that I added to the sidebar. Check it out! I also plan on making my own Kick-starter so I can make a full color sketchbook, since it seems I'm the only artist without one nowadays. I plan to have many awesome rewards so keep an eye out for that.

I also got my Katie Cook sketch cards in the mail and I'm currently working on those. I have to keep it hush hush though until I get the green light to post them. So excited! I hope to get more sketch card work from this. I'm also working on the Zombie Project with my friend Kevin, The Superman Naive Project for Brain Aneurism Fund that will be pitched to DC by my good friend Siike, as well as Facebeast 2, random commissions, and the Sketchbook Project. Yeeesh! A lot I know! I also somehow got a panel at Pariahcon and will be holding an art contest! So if you're going check it out! It's on Saturday on the schedule as Kate's Art Panel Thingy. I also passed my Junior review at school as well and I'm now officially a senior, even though I'm too old to be school still lol. So much awesomeness! Well, that's all for now. I have pictures below of some art I did this weekend. Later!

So I have a lot of exciting news! First up I'm helping a friend of my with his book we want to print and we need your help! We have started a Kickstarter and need funds to print the book and to pay me for my time to make art for him for this book. All you have to do is click on the Kickstarter images I have at the bottom of this post or on my right hand sidebar to donate! Anything from a $1 to just telling people about it helps! Next in news is that it has been announced officially that Katie Cook is doing an artist trading card series called Kittie Ditties and Pretty Ladies with 5FINITY CARDS! She picked me to work on this with her as well as some other amazing artists, and to her surprise and ours the set is already SOLD OUT before it was announced! CRAZY! This will be my first trading card set for me to work on and with one of my art idols! So hopefully this gets me more artist card work and hopefully maybe one day, Star Wars Trading cards.... I can dream. Also in news I have entered the student Art Show at UT, even though I seem to never have any luck with Galleries liking me. So hopefully I got one of my five pieces into the show. I will actually find out today and will post later with the news. Last in news IDW announced at Wondercon that there will be an ongoing series of Womathology books! Yay! I actually joined the artist list long ago I think I'm the third person signed up, So hopefully I have a good chance of getting in. I hope to work with Rachel Pandich again and be able to show them what we can bring to the big fancy book this time, since I only had a chance to do our story last time in the sketchbook. She has a great story she has showed me that fell through when we tried to do Shakespheare Shaken , and then fate showed up when Woamnthology announced the theme this time is Space and Rachel story involved Space! Too awesome! So hopefully they like her story and let me work with her. I will keep you guys updated if I hear anymore about that. Also free con is approaching fast and I will of course keep you up to date how that goes. I'm really excited about it! So that's pretty much it, Check out the links at the bottom of this post and take care!

TBCC 2012 03/04/2012

So i just finished Tampa Bay Comic Con! It was different this year because instead of one day it was two days! We did well as usual for our local convention, although Saturday was busier than Sunday. I was happy to see some art buddies of mine at the convention who I wasn't expecting to see so it was totally awesome! The next convention for us is Freecon 8 in Tallahasse, FL in April. So be sure to come visit us if you're in the area. We also have Pariahcon in April as well , then we have the summer off. After the summer is over I have DragonCon then finally and not least Palm Con. And sadly that will conclude our convention season for the year, except for the next Tampa Bay Comic Con in October. If you have any cons however you would LOVE to see at us, don't hesitate to let that convention know and to let us know. We are also looking for any fan art for our comics, especially Agatha Frisky for us to put in maybe the end of issue two if anyone is interested. So if you love us and want your art in our next comic please don't hesitate to email me. Well that's all and as usual look at the slideshow at the bottom of this post to see all the commissions I did and things I saw at the con.

It was my first Megacon, but I have done far better than I have at any con so far. We sold a lot of buttons, comics, and art. We didn't sell that many prints , but I want to try to make more nice big detailed prints to have a good variety. I also want to try to get an art book together of my art to sell at cons as well in the future. I think this was the pick me up we needed. I was also glad to see some familiar faces as well as new ones. I also found others artists and creators I love as well. I got commissions I will post on a slideshow below as well as some I need to finish and mail out when I have a chance to sit down between my day job and school. I definitely plan to do this again next year. My next convention will be at Tampa Bay Comic Con, my usual show since I live right around the corner. I also got asked if I'll be at Heroes and my answer at the moment is unfortunately,  no. Josh and I can't afford another outside con besides Dragon*Con, it has taken so much of our funds. I was also asked if I wanted a table at C2E2 or NYCC, but I'm not rich or making much profit yet, I hope to one day, but not now. . Thanks for all the support and I hope to make more art for you guys soon!

Star Wars Event 02/14/2012

So to anyone who missed the event, you missed a good time to see Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D and get some free art from some great artists. I was drawing non stop for movie goers and below in the slideshow you can see some on the spot art I was making for fans. I was also promoting Megacon as well. It was great practice for me and one of the few times people can get free art from some great artists in the area.  Also in other news my friend Tonee got a tattoo of some art I drew him! My first fan tattoo ever! Thanks! You can check that out below as well. I will see you all this weekend at Megacon and post about how it went as well. It will be my first Megacon selling my art so wish me luck!

More Great News! 02/04/2012

We also got into Free Con 8 in Tallahasse! Yay, another juried show that liked me. I hope this good luck follows me to Megacon. So I have a lot of cons lined up for this year, so happy! Thanks for all the support and hopefully you'll see me at more cons in a town near you.

DRAGON CON!!!! 02/03/2012

Yes! I finally did it! I got accepted to a con outside of FL and not any con, DRAGON CON!!!! I thought they already got artists, but I guess not! So I just have to make payments and wait on my packet to make it official , but as long as I pay I'm in! Yay! So I will see you Atlanta in 2012! Huzzah!

Events 02/03/2012

So I have an update on events. So it looks like I will NOT be going to the C.A.K.E. Expo in Chicago, I didn't make the cut. It seems I can not get my art outside of Florida at the moment so to all my out of state fans, I'm sorry. I will however try to get into Metrocon once I find out how to apply and how much it costs. So there is always a plus side. I also have not heard back from Freecon as of yet, so I'm waiting on that as well. So no new events yet. I also have events coming up as well just around the corner. Next Weekend I'll be at the Cobb Theatre in Wesley Chapel drawing Star Wars art to celebrate the release of the Phantom Menance in 3D! I will also be giving away this art for FREE!!! They are always giving away Megacon tickets in a drawing as well so be sure to come by if you are in the area. Also of course everyone is counting down the days until Megacon which I'll be at as well. I will be doing two panels and selling art at my table Brown 9. So I hope to see people there. I have flyers for the events I'm doing at the bottom of this post to give you guys more information about them.

Swamp Con 2012 01/15/2012

So this was an interesting con. I loved that it was free, the only down side was it being outside and how cold it was. Good thing I had my Slytherin scarf to keep me warm. I wasn't sure if I was going to sell anything with how cold it was and it being their first con and being a student I know not many of them have money to spend, but I did make enough for Josh and I to get some food and gas money back. Unfortunately we didn't sell any of our comics, but I did get a few commissions and sold some Dr. Who prints of course. It was a good practice since I know Megacon will probably be hectic. I also was able to practice on some Star Wars drawings which I plan to make at the Star Wars event next month I'm attending. It's free so be sure to come by and celebrate Star Wars in 3D! I also was told about Freecon which i just applied to and hope I get into as well as a Shakespeare Anthology project I applied to be in as well. Also speaking of Megacon I will be in two panels on Saturday at the con. My first panel will be the Womanthology panel in room 221C at 1:40-2:30pm the other one is called Nerd Nation's Artist's Alley Creator Spotlight panel and will be in hall 221C at 6:30-8:30pm. So I hope to see people there. I'm also posting the small amount of art I did at the con for you guys and the picture I did for the Womanthology pdf since they said it was ok to post. I hope you guys enjoy! You can also listen to a podcast done by Nerd Nation I was mentioned in here

Hello 2012! 01/02/2012

It's a new year and I can't wait to attend the conventions I have planned. Also school starts back up soon and I'm going to be busy, busy, busy. I'm taking Modern Art History, Junior Seminar and Review, and Beginning Photography. We'll see if I plan to keep all these classes, but I do like to stress myself out. Also I got Straight As last semester, which I didn't expect. So go me!

Also I have only 3 pages left to do for Agatha Frisky and the cover! I'm so close to being done and have Josh tell me to work on something else I'm sure as soon as I finish, so hopefully I'll have a wee bit of time to be lazy. I also got offered to work on another project for a friend of mine which I'll talk more about when I know more about it, but it could help my art career.  I also found a new site to sell my art prints at that you can even buy framed or printed on canvas! The link to it can be found in my art store tab at the top of the site and under art prints. So please check it out and buy some prints!  I also really want to get into artist trading cards and especially with Topps would be a dream, especially for Star Wars. So if anyone has any advice to give me, please give it!  I know I need to buy blank card sizes to practice on, but I know I could do it. Well that's all that's on my mind. Happy New to you all and I hope it's awesome!
