Sorry I haven't updated in a while guys. I've been crazy busy going to cons, getting a new day job, and still being in school. I have updated my appearances for 2014 that you guys can find me at. I also just opened up an Ebay store and plan to update my storenvy and other sites soon as well. I'm also working on a webcomic I plan to launch soon called Scary Times at Horror High and I plan to launch a kickstarter for my second sketchbook as well. Once I have more things finalized I'll inform you guys on where to go find these projects. I have a lot in store for 2014 and cannot wait to share it with you all. Until then be sure to check out my facebook fan page and twitter for more updates and have a Happy Holiday!
I swore off anime conventions for the most part , but decided to give Metro Con a chance this year. I didn't do as well as I was hoping I think due to the fact I was sharing a table and booth was confusing for people and it seemed more action was going on in artist alley than the vendors room. So if I do this con again it might be only if I get an artist alley table. If I still don't do so well after trying artist alley then I know its not the con for me to do. I personally am not an anime nut so I'm not the best to determine the con overall being stuck behind a table and not being into raves which seemed to be the big to dos there. I was excited to see some non anime costumes like disney characters, game of thrones, and Indiana Jones. So maybe some non anime might take over a bit down the road. We'll see. I do want to thank everyone who stopped by my booth and I hope I made some new fans with all the buisness cards I handed out. I'm on a little break, not really with the day job, but my next coventions will hit me 3 weekends in a row starting near the end of the month. So I hope to get a disney day in soon before I start traveling alot. Plus school starts soon which means if you dont get your orders in before Septemeber 1st I will be closing my commission list and they will only be available at cons until I feel I can open the up again, which would probablly be when the semester is over. Trust me i can't wait to be done with school too. Or even better be able to get a job where I can do art all the time or just be able to freelance. I'm already missing the first 2 classes of my semester due to cons so hopefully it wont effect me much. Thanks for all your support and I'll see you guys around the con circuit.
Sorry for the REALLY LATE update you guys. Life is crazy sometimes. So what have we missed.
It was my first year at this con and heard nice things. And it's true the people who run this do a great job and are sweet. I didn't do well, but hey people don't know me in charlotte yet. Made some fans and had some requests to come back so maybe I will. Although I don't plan to travel as much next year. Maybe after I'm done with school. And I mean I'm so close to graduating finally. So expect me to stay in Florida a lot in 2014. The only exceptions might be New Orleans, Atlanta, and Charlotte. We'll see how it goes. Anyway continuing about heroes con. I donated a huge piece to the auction and it sold for $150! wooo! I made printsof the piece which are a limited run which means once I'm out I'm out! so be sure to get a copy while you can in my web store. I also got some amazing facebeast commissions from Abby Howard, Joel Carrol, Mike Maihack, and Meghan Hetrick! They are amazing! Can't wait to get some commissions of the villians for the issues and website. All in all i would do this con again and hope to make it in indie island one year. And have my art go big in the auction and raise more for a good cause. The auction is so fun to watch. So if you love art and indie comics trust me this is the con to go to becuase thats all there is. Art and Comics! Bummer thing about it though is after I found out my job I worked at for 2 years was closing so it made me super depressed since I had no plan, but was lucky to have landed a new job at starbucks, atleast until I graduate and can find a job I love with art.
Up next METROCON:
OMG! It's next weekend! I have some NEW stuff for sale for you guys! I also will not be artist alley, but the vendors rooms because thats where I hear all the action is. I'm sharing a booth with my friend Cheyenne and Gromidez. Both are super talented! so you should check us out! Booth H-14!!!! Bellow is a map on where to find us and some pics of some art I'll have with me. I redid my mini prints and have 2 new posters for sale and buttons! This will be my first metrocon, since I usually avoid anime cons like the plaque from bad experience so hopefully you guys change my mind and make me do this one again. It's at the convention center here in Tampa,FL so come by and say hey.
So that's pretty much it. Sorry for not updating sooner. Trying to get everything ready for metrocon and finishing over due commissions can be time consuming. Speaking of commissions they will be open until school starts again which for me is during dragoncon. You can still get some commissions from me at cons if you order them from me in person. And i dod ship for free when you buy stuff from me at cons if I can't do them there. My list is empyting so be sure to get a spot while you can. I can do digital and traditional! Here are some recent digital ones which I'm doing for $25 that you can buy in my web store.
C2E2 was amazing! I hope to be able to do it again in the future. We were so close to our goal, but I was happy to have made some new fans and meet artists I admire online. It was crazy fun! I'm sad I didn't take much in pictures or video due to us being busy, but that's a good thing! We got to do some sight seeing after hours like having Chicago deep dish pizza and going to Chinatown! A lot of great food. I got con crud though which sucks. My body didn't adapt well to the new environment I guess. I had some fun commissions and was worried since I didn't have all of my things with me due to weight restrictions on planes, but we did all right.
Tomorrow is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I will be at Read More Comics in Brandon, FL doing FREE, yes FREE sketches from 4-7 p.m. (limit one per person). I can take commission orders if you want something nice for yourself or someone special and will have prints and my comics for sale as well. I hope to try different shops out once in a while so if you are interested in having me at your event please email me.
I'm also amazed from the positive response to my doodlez prints and will definitely be making more. I just did two star wars ones. One with the rebels and one with the sith side from the original trilogy of course.
Also school is out for summer! so expect more from me! I hope to eventually be able to do more cons and live off that eventually and commissions so I can continue to pump out more awesome stuff, but until then I'll try to update as much as I can and create as much art and comics that my body can handle. Thanks for all the support and check out my updated con schedule! See around!
Sorry for the lack of updates. School is kicking my butt. Speaking of school I made a major decision and decided to change my major from Graphic Design to Digital Arts. Which means I'll be learning some 3D animation and I'm very excited. Graphic Design just seems to not be working out to well for me. Don't get me wrong I can still make logos and design t-shirts and etc, but I just find it not for me to continue school for.
In other news Megacon was amazing and thanks to everyone who came by and checked out my stuff and panel. It means a lot. I'm very surprised my new Doodlez style went very well. I also got to talk to other artist that I admire and was shocked they love my stuff as well. It blows my mind. I even did some awesome trades. Even with some drama with an individual in the convention scene that I'm currently dealing with I had a great time. I just wish I had more time to hang out with everyone and do things I wanted to do, but I was glad to be busy and working my butt off.
Also Tampa Bay Comic con is coming up this weekend! So if you're local you should definately come by and check out my stuff. I also got a few copies of Solestar to sell and all the money goes twoard the Brain Anneurism Foundation. Also if you already have a copy and want me to sign it be sure to bring it by.
After Our local show we will be flying out to C2E2 this month as well, which we are nervous and excited about. It will be our first time flying to a convention and be nowhere near what we know or are familiar with so I hope Chicago embraces us and we meet some cool new people.
Also another major news update! I will be at a different location for Free comic Book Day on May 4th. Read More Comics was nice enough to let me work at their artist table from 4-7pm. I will be giving away FREE yes FREE 4x6 Doodlez style of any 1 character in color per person. I will also have my comics for sale and prints and some original art. I will also take some commission requests if anyone wanted to order anything for me to mail them considering the short time frame, which I will mail for FREE as well. My commission list is currently CLOSED outside of conventions. So if you can't make it to conventions this is a good way to get art from me.
This is only the beggining of our biggest con season yet keep a look out for us and let me know if you guys have any convention suggestions and it always helps if you let cons know you would like to see me there because sometimes they might offer me a table which helps out greatly.
Well I need to get back to school work. Thanks for reading and see you guys at a convention near you!
Well, when I thought our convention list was done I get some more very awesome surprises! Dragon*Con has asked us to come back to artist alley! So you will see me and Josh Dykstra representing Naughty Bicycle Comics again in Atlanta! We are so excited because this is our favorite con to attend so far. It's also juried and you're never guaranteed an in even if you've gone before so I'm truly honored.
Also! As I mentioned before I got rejected from C2E2, but with luck I just got invited to go since some artists couldn't make it! So you will see me as well Chicago!
So this year has been crazy! The Facebeast kickstarter is almost over as well and I'm amazed with how much we raised to print this series and the great responses we have had. So thank you to everyone has donated and inform others about Facebeast.
Speaking of Facebeast our next convention is Megacon! We planned to have Facebeast done by that time, but unfortunately school is kicking my butt and I'm working more hours at my day job so being the solo artist on this project I'm not sure if it'll be ready by then. I'd rather put out a great product than a crappy rushed one. BUT we hope to have it done by our next convention after that one called Tampa Bay Comic Con. So it will be done soon. But Josh will have his own comic The Hall monitors for sale and you can actually pre-order a copy right now HERE!
Well, that's all for the current news. I have also opened up a few commission spots to help with our funds for C2E2 and Dragon Con, trust me cons are not cheap to attend, let alone vend at. So please help us out and read and share this flyer below! Thanks for you support and see you around the con circuit!
I've started school this semester and I'm already swamped with trying to finish my comic, a sketch card gig, current commissions, and work that I'm going to have to close down commissions for the semester. I will have commissions available at conventions I'll be at and there are still some pledges on my current kickstarter for Facebeast right now, but other than that I can't do anything else, because I basically have no time. I have a commission list so if you already asked me about a commission before you are fine. I added you to my to do list on the side. Thanks for your understanding and it will open back up soon when I'm not as busy. Thanks!
Working full speed on Facebeast 2. I've started inking pages and Josh has begun working on launching a kickstarter for it. We plan to have it ready for MegaCon 2013.
Speaking of the work I do for Naughty Bicycle we actually decided to have a gallery for other artists and fans that send us fan art to have teir work printed in our comic with their info. We don't plan to pay anyone to send in art, unless we see an artist we really like and can afford at conventions we do. We would however if we decide to print your art to give you a free copy of the comic it's in and have your art and info in our comic that we sell at conventions.
If interested I can send you references if you want to do fanart for our comics Agatha Frisky and Facebeast. Even if we don't have room in Facebeast 2 we plan to do this for every issue so you'll get in eventually as long as we make comics. Email me at email@example.com.
Also for the holidays I have a sale going on in my online stores etsy and storenvy for 50% off ( except shoes and buttons) until Jan.1st, 2013. Just put the code holidays in for the checkout. It's too late to ship for Christmas, but it's a good sell to get something for yourself or as a late gift.
Well, it's been a good year and I can't for 2013. Hapoy Holidays everyone.
Well got letters from San Diego Comic Con and C2E2 and both rejected me this year, I'll try C2E2 again, but I feel like SDCC will just be a loss of money for me unless I raised money on kick starter for it. $500 for 4ft and 1 badge...ouch!
But no sadness for me I already have Heroes Con and Cincy Comic Con who love me as I am, no need to apply like I'm trying to get into a college. So I am happy with my convention schedule for 2013.
I also got a new banner with my name and Josh's name on it so you can find us easier! Hooray!
And thanks to Groupon we got some NB Comic swag for ourselves to look more legit at cons. Also almost halfway done penciling Facebeast 2 and turned in my pencils for Skin Crawling so things are moving along nicely.
Also school is done for the semester so no stress until the end of January for me yay!
I think that's pretty much it for now. I'm busy prepping for Time Lord Fest in Tampa this January, so see you then!
Sorry it's taking me this long this update. I've been busy that's for sure. To start off I'll review the last conventions I have done for the year. So here it goes!
Tampa Bay Comic Con:
This is always one of my favorite cons since it's literally 5 minutes away from where I currently live. It seemed like it grows with more people every time. Unfortunately we didn't do as well in sales as we hoped, but I think it's because I need more prints and a bigger display. So Josh and I are working on that for Magacon. I hope they eventually plan to move this to a bigger venue since the audience for it grows every year. We hope to do this one as well as its sister con in Orlando for 2013 for sure!
North Florida Comic Show:
I was glad Rachel Pandich told me about this convention and offered us a place to crash. We didn't do super well because it wasn't a big convention, but the people we did meet were amazing and we made some new fans which made me happy and well worth the trip. We definitely hope to this one again as well if we can afford to for 2013 as well.
In other news there is a lot going on in the kickstarter universe. I just mailed out most of backer rewards and only a few left to finish up and make pdfs. I also posted my thank you video on the kickstarter page and plan to post it on youtube as well for others to see. So happy to finally be close to the end of that tunnel. Speaking of which I do have the sketchbooks in sale on my online store. After this run this is it! You'll have to wait for Doodlez volume 2! So act now if you want one! I'm also waiting to get my art back from the Muppet Art Show, I hope I sold them instead of them being lost or stolen, since the guy who ran it seems to be MIA at the moment...
I also did a Wreck it Ralph event at Cobb Theatres and it went well, even though I was late due to I-4 being shut down. I did a lot of sketches for free and got to see the movie after.
Also a kick-starter launched by a good friend Siike Donnely called Solestar. I donated 2 pages to this jam type art story that tells a story of a superhero with only 24 hours left to live and embarks on a journey to save the world for one last time. All proceeds from sales of this book also go towards helping the Brain Aneurism Foundation as well! So please go check it out and they plan to launch it at Megacon 2013 as well!
There's also a kick-starter that I found and I will have an artist table there to display my art in Cincinnati! They have gone well over their goal and was put together by the the amazing Tony Moore who has done the art for The Walking Dead! So I'm very excited to be at this con with some amazing artists. Definitely something to go to if you can.
As for what I'm working on now since I don't plan to have another convention until January. I only have a few weeks left of school this semester, but still have my boring day job to pay my bills. I'm currently focused on Facebeast 2 and getting some prints done. I'm also in the works with Skin Crawling Comics and Rachel Pandich on a story about King Leer in Space. More on those once I know more.
